Walking on a Country Road
This prototypical Appalachian backroad is one of those scenes that makes a great photograph in part because it's the type of scene that is not photographed that often. And when I set out on my day trip to Blowing Rock, North Carolina, it's not the type of scene I expected to photograph, either – I was anticipating sweeping panoramic vistas of the Great Smoky Mountains. While I certainly did photograph the mountain views, this image reminds me far more of the character of this area of the Appalachian Mountains: gentle, quiet, lush, and private. And as is so often the case, it is a view that caught my eye not when I was out looking for an iconic photograph, but rather when I was just strolling through the forest, experiencing the landscape at it's own pace.
